OUR HERITAGE BUILDINGS

South Wing 1878

The South Wing is the original building of Xavier College. The foundations date from 1872, the front dates from the opening of the College in 1878, the back half was completed in 1884. Listed by the National Trust in 1987 and Heritage Council Victoria in 1991.


West Wing 1889

The West Wing was designed to provide additional facilities such as the study hall, new dormitories, lobbies and classrooms for the growing school. Listed by the National Trust in 1987 and Heritage Council Victoria in 1991.


Great Hall 1890

This spacious building was added to the new West Wing. It was built in the style of a giant conservatory and owes its existence to the vision and courage of Father Thomas Brown SJ, the 4th Rector of Xavier. Listed by the National Trust in 1987 and Heritage Council Victoria in 1991.


Xavier College Memorial Chapel 1934

The Xavier College Memorial Chapel was finally completed in 1934 and stands as a memorial to Old Xaverians that made the ultimate sacrifice in all wars. Listed by the National Trust in 1987 and Heritage Council Victoria in 1991.


Studley Hall 1869

Formerly known as 'Waverley', Mr. T. M. Burke purchased Studley Hall in 1920 and presented the property to Archbishop Daniel Mannix, who in turn passed it to the Jesuits. Listed by the National Trust and Heritage Council Victoria in 1967.


Burke Hall Memorial Chapel 1926

The Chapel was 'a gift of Mrs T. M Burke in memory of her brother, Frank Brady, XC 1904-1909’ and is now a memorial to Old Xaverians that made the ultimate sacrifice in all wars.


Wren House 1857

The property 'Studley House' was acquired by the College in 1966. It is now named in honour of its last owner, Mr John Wren, who substantially altered the house in 1919. Listed by the National Trust and Heritage Council Victoria in 1956.
